World Refugee Day is commemorated on June 20th every year to advocate for the plight of the refugees globally, celebrating their resilience, courage and contributions to society. Each year, World Refugee Day has a specific theme to highlight particular aspects of the refugee’s experiences, with the theme in 2023 set by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) being “Hope Away from Home”. Hence, this year, we shall continue to stand in unison with the refugees and work towards a more inclusive and compassionate world for those who have been forcibly displaced from their homes.

With that in mind, we collaborated with Refuge for the Refugees to conduct a physical charity concert, Refugeastra: Heartstrings for Humanity so that we can commemorate this wonderful day. All funds raised will be donated to all refugee organizations that are involved in this event.

Cardiothoracic surgery is a branch of surgery which involves surgical correction of the organs in the thoracic cage, mainly the heart and the lungs. It is a highly specialised field which is of much interest to young medical students. Many students are however unclear on the exact pathway due to lack of info online. This webinar's aim is to shed light on the pathway and give students a deeper understanding of the pathway, requirements and training to becoming a Cardiothoracic surgeon.

Seeing that there is a lack of cardiothoracic students in Malaysia, this webinar would be a nudge in the right direction of encouraging more students into becoming cardiothoracic surgeons or at least provide them a full understanding of what they would have to undergo to become one.
